Research About Humor[edit]

I object to the reversion of the change I just made ([1])! Isn't it true that material on the humorous pages would be useful for someone researching Wikipedia joke culture (or something like that)? --Siva 23:10, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I think the "...(unless the research is about Wikipedia itself)." Bit should be removed. Humour articles by their very nature are not at all subject to the rigourous sourcing and consensus-building process of other articlespace or wikipediaspace articles, and should not be used for research whatsoever. Andrew Lenahan - Starblind 13:01, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, but still, wouldn't it be useful for someone researching Wikipedia joke culture? --Siva 04:18, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Actually, since there aen't that many humour articles in the first place, I don't think there is anything TO research. I agree with Starblind. --SuperLuigi 31 03:45, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

OMG[edit]

It's been a long, long time since I created this template, and this has gone a long, long way. :) --hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 02:24, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

And it's funny how it isn't humorous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.233.142.239 (talk) 15:44, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Image[edit]

The image of the cat (Image:Laff alert.svg) isn't very easy to distinguish at the small size it is in this template. I believe the Joke image (Image:Joke Alert.png) is better. Thoughts? LaraLove 04:04, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I agree -- penubag  (talk) 05:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
THAT WAS A CAT?!?!?!?!? 8-| Googolme* 15:13, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
I prefered Image:Laff alert.svg :( -- lucasbfr talk 23:01, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Image:Joke Alert.png and Image:Ambox humor.svg aren't funny enough. I've replaced the picture with Image:Smile icon.png, and made the layout of the text simple and easy to read, as it should be. Hot or not? Cheers, Face 19:33, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh shit, the png image doesn't display correctly when the template is put in userspace. Reverted. - Face 19:40, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, at least the text layout was good, so I put that back. - Face 19:46, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

I put in a more humorful image. +sj + 18:18, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Text[edit]

The text of this template was not demonstrating a sense of humor so I lightened it up a bit. Now it only scares you into thinking that humor is dangerous if the person leaving the template intentionally includes a 'blockable' flag. +sj + 18:18, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion[edit]

Would it be possible to be able to embed the {{who?}} template as an option in this one? That would be funny.--otherlleft (talk) 12:02, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Not Funny Anymore[edit]

I think that by the time you're done reading this, you're less likely to find the humorous article funny. In my experience, jokes that start with some version of, "get ready everybody, what you're about to hear a humorous statement," are not very funny.

One thing we might do is just move this template to the bottom of articles. Perhaps we could note that in the main template page and move this to the bottom of articles in a systematic way. Or am I the only person who this really bothers? —mako 04:17, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you. I just remove the template when I can. The Hero of This Nation (talk) 13:31, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Changed the wording[edit]

From "is kept because it is considered humorous" to "is considered humorous". Any thoughts and/or objections? Abeg92contribs 23:57, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Parameter for AFD?[edit]

Could we please get a parameter that we can use to change the category from the general (>900 pages) humor cat to the April Fool's Day category (ought to have >200 of these pages)? WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:45, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Humor icon[edit]

Draft:Template:Humor icon

A version for comments, instead of marking entire pages -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 10:39, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

I hadn't seen this (and the original's been deleted anyway, oddly enough as a G13), so I went ahead and created an inline version myself. See Template:Humor note. Gestrid (talk) 05:02, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Namespace check[edit]

Wbm1058, I'm confused by this edit. Why is a {{talk other}} test needed in the "main" parameter? Shouldn't that parameter only be evaluated in article space? -- John of Reading (talk) 07:22, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm a little confused too. I patrol for pages in the talk namespace that transclude {{error}} and found that the pages trancluding {{humor}} 16 pages were also transcluding errors. My patch stopped that from happening. As to why that's necessary, I think it has to do with how {{Category handler}} works. That in turn uses Module:Category handler, which is something of a black box to me as I'm not super fluent in Lua. – wbm1058 (talk) 12:02, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
