19th century[edit]
- 1847 – The first railway connection between Rotterdam and The Hague opens.
- 1858 – Carl Abraham Pihl presents the results of his investigation of the area along the river Drammenselva which concluded that the terrain between Drammen and Randsfjorden, in Norway, was favorable for a rail line.
- 1879 – The first electric railway opens at the Berlin Trades Exposition.
- 1887 – The first Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway train over the newly constructed San Bernardino and Los Angeles Railroad line arrives in Los Angeles.[1]
20th century[edit]
- 1910 – The Union of South Africa is established and with it the Colonial Government railways, the Cape Government Railways, the Natal Government Railways and the Central South African Railways are merged to form South African Railways.[2]
21st century[edit]
- 2004 – A fire erupts in one of the Seattle Center Monorail trains; of the 150 passengers aboard at the time, only 5 required treatment for minor injuries and no deaths occurred.
