Lupo Manaro 09:00, 11 October 2006 (UTC) The English version of Alonso de Ojeda is the only one, among the Spanish, French and German versions, that states Ojeda to be of noble Bulgarian origin. It is strange: in those days Spain was notoriously xenophobic and intolerant in matters of religion and the Orthodox Okhrid would not have much chance in making a career. Is there a source for this statement or is it a practical joke ripe for deletion?

About the origin[edit]

I have also heard such a thing about Alonso de Ojeda's origin. As long as I remember, the big russian history Encyclopedia says he was actually born in Okhrid. I've heard that scribers of that time wrote he was shouting in a strange language when he got angry. I will try to find these sources and publish them Tangra680 13:50, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

About the origin[edit]

"he was shouting in a strange language"..... maybe euskera??? for example..... sure that is a new bulgarian theory.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.120.130.158 (talk) 21:46, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Is it true that he had John Cabot killed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TepidTangent (talkcontribs) 18:58, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Style and POV issues[edit]

The style of the article is in some places far from encyclopedic and the article fails to maintain an impartial tone.

...he was unduly harsh and vindictive...

The reason that the natives were hostile was that Spaniards were raiding villages and taking many as slaves
