I created an image for Morse code. Specifically a diagram. Once I uploaded the image and referenced it in the article, I discovered I had a couple of mistakes in the image which I wanted to correct. I corrected them, prepared an new image and proceeded to upload it.
From what I read in uploading images all I had to do is upload the new version using the same wiki image name. Unfortunately, the system gave me a warning and stopped me from uploading: A file with this name exists already, and cannot be overwritten. Please go back and upload this file under a new name. I could not figure it out so I uploaded another image until this gets sorted out. While I was at it, I uploaded a third image which contains the final (I hope) changes.
The questions I am hoping to get some help with, is strict sequence, are:
- Can anyone suggest why the system was stopping me from updating my image?
- Can anyone suggest how can I update the first image with a corrected PNG (eg. the one from the third image)?
- Can anyone suggest how can I then delete the second and third images?
- Original image with mistakes (now deleted)
- Intermediate corrected image but effective duplicate (now deleted)
Thanks
I have now added the db-author template to the first and second images to qualify them for speedy deletion, according to what I could I could make out from the deletion instructions. Waiting to see if they get nuked. Aris00 20:27, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Speedy deletion worked! The duplicates have been eliminated. Will not bother much more with this. Lesson learned: when there are image updates, just add the update as a new image then delete the old images when finished. Aris00 10:31, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Aris00, I'd love to use your Morse code tree for a CNC project as a gift for a friend. Would it be possible for you to make an SVG available or send it to me? Jinkside (talk) 19:02, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- Jinkside, I've uploaded an SVG version of this image; see File:Morse_code_tree3.svg
