Not software compatible?[edit]
I thought the 010 was backward compatible with all 68K software, but the article says:
- The 68010 was not 100% software compatible with the 68000. The most problematic difference was the exception stack frame.
Can someone elaborate on this in the article? Tempshill 21:01, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it's true. Another incompatibility is that MOVE from SR is priviledged on the 68010, but wasn't on the 68000. Mirror Vax 22:26, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- everybody makes mistakes sometimes, even people who work for cpu developing companies, so that can very well be true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.58.36.215 (talk) 01:49, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
It should be added to the article that the 68010 has an improved microcode over the 68000. This alters the timing of some instructions, which is also another source of minor incompatibilities with the 68000.Ijor 22:32, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
