Automated message to bot owners[edit]

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 04:48, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply[reply]

ISBN formatting[edit]

Hi,

As far as I am aware there is no consensus on the formatting of ISBN numbers using hyphens. I noticed this bot inserting hyphens into ISBNs, on what basis is this done and what are the inbuilt limitations? Thanks (talk) 15:50, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Altering file links[edit]

In this edit the bot altered the file name used to embed an image, because it happened to have an ISBN in it. Obviously, the bot should not be alterting the name of any file, page, or other link, ever. The result of this was to produce a redlink. --Rob (talk) 10:46, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I added a question about this bot to Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard#User:RebelRobot updating ISBNs. --Rob (talk) 11:02, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
