New Updates[edit]

I recently updated the airport page extensively, conforming more to the Wikipedia standards. I also deleted a couple things that were originally there that seemed kind of unnecessary. I am interested in your opinions on the new format and content of the article, what you do and don't like about it, and what can be added or changed. -Jondude11 04:21, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Crown Affair Update[edit]

I have found a website that lists all movies filmed in Westchester County here. It states that while The Thomas Crown Affair was filmed in Westchester, in Sleepy Hollow, it does not list the airport as a filming location. It does however list the airport as a filming location for Meet the Parents, The Best Man, and Random Hearts.Jondude11 04:54, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IATA Debate[edit]

I'm an operations manager at Westchester Airport. I can tell you for a fact that the IATA code of HPN is simply a random three letters people have been trying to find meaning for as long as I've been here. It doesn't actually stand for anything. Figment26 09:14, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

truly? I, as a local, have always assumed it came from the airport's alternative name of White Plains airport - wHitePlaiNs -- seemed logical enough on this end. Travellingcari (talk)

--It has passed into urban legand as standing for a number of different things, but the truth is that the letters are simply random. When I first began working there, I had employees tell me all kinds of stories about how it got its name, but the truth is, it was just random chance.

--That doesn't /seem/ to make sense, I mean look at for example LAX, TPA, LGA, JFK, BOS, MIA, DFW, LAS - all those airport codes were derived from something - most of the cases being WHERE they were located, some after important figureheads [JFK being used after the airport was renamed after John F. Kennedy, the name being changed from Idlewild [code IDW]. I think the idea that it was named after the surrounding towns [Harrison, Purchase North Castle] is very plausible, but that's just my opinion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.246.32.253 (talk) 03:56, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Currently working on a cleanup, new citations. Will have it live in the next hour or so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Travellingcari (talkcontribs) 04:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Popular Culture[edit]

I don't disagree with the recent tagging, however I'm not sure how to address it. Should we rename it filming locations? That's the bulk of the information. I don't think it necessarily fits in any other section so a rename could work. Question is, I suppose -- is it encyclopedic content? I don't have a particular opinion on that. Travellingcari (talk) 18:07, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pop culture is not necessarily trivia. Reformatting the entries in a paragraph form would help. It'd no longer look like a trivia list. -Fnlayson (talk) 18:35, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A number of TV shows have filmed there as well; Lipstick Jungle, Knights of Prosperity and Kidnapped, among others. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.80.255.106 (talk) 01:23, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Airport Expansions[edit]

Despite the resident complaints, the county and the airlines are looking to do some major additions at Westchester County Airport. AirTran, American, Delta, JetBlue, United, and US Airways have been waiting for a long time to meet the customer demands. These updates could completely change the airport's image. They would require a major expansion or complete demolition and re-build of the terminal. The airlines would like to start bringing in bigger aircraft and start many transcontinental flights, such as destinations like Los Angeles/Long Beach, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Denver, Austin, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Dallas/Fort Worth. Also some more local destinations such as Miami, Baltimore, and Indinapolis, and more flights to Chicago, Charlotte, Atlanta, Philidelphia, and Washington, DC. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.89.176.6 (talk) 00:13, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clean-up needed[edit]

I haven't got to the end of the page yet, but I've already noticed that Westchester is served by either 12, 6 or 7 airlines - depending on which section you are reading. Someone with specific knowledge is needed to do a clean-up. --621PWC (talk) 19:06, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Un-pipe to improve understanding[edit]

Lebanon is neither Lebanon nor Lebanon, nor any of 3-7 other Lebanons. MOS:PIPE indicates: However, make sure that it is still clear what the link is about without having to follow the link. (emphasis added) With such a variety of possibilities, link is actually clearer in this case without using the pipe. Furthermore, the link is displayed in a table which eliminates the benefits of piping links to better fit prose. --N8wilson 🔔 03:50, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
